The Palatka Optical Shop Rx Lab is proud to announce that we have become ambassadors with Costa's Kick Plastic movement. Below you will find out more information, videos, and photos about Kick Plastic. There are also links to Kick Plastic's website and twitter feed to find out more about Kick Plastic at the bottom of this page.
What is Kick Plastic?
Kick Plastic was launched by Costa to help reduce the amount of plastic they use as a company and to mobilize a movement and to help inspire other companies and communities to do the same.
As an ambassador, The Optical Shop Rx Lab is now a location where, instead of throwing your old plastic lenses away, you can stop by our local shop during business hours and we will have them sent away to be recycled so that they do not end up in a landfill, inland waterways, and/or any of our oceans. The Optical Shop Rx Lab is located at 3710 St. Johns Ave, Palatka, FL 32177. There is a map on our contact page.
Stop using plastic bottles
A reusable bottle is better for the environment, more cost efficient, and keeps your drink colder longer.
Buying in Bulk Makes a Big Difference
Sometimes we don't notice the amount of packaging that comes with each product, but it adds up pretty fast.
Reel in old line
Change your fishing line routinely to keep old, stretched line out o four oceans where it can harm sea life. To learn more about monofilament recycling, visit BoatUS.org.
Say Goodbye to Grocery Bags
Plastic grocery bags can be replaced with reusable ones. Yes, even produce bags.
Take Plastic out of Takeout
Decline bags and utensils when ordering takeout. You can even ask restaurants to pack food in you own containers.
Above are just some of the things we can do to help reduce the amount of plastic that is in our oceans, landfills, and inland waterways.
Americans may be recycling more than ever before, but we're also making more trash than ever before. So even though we're getting better, our oceans continue to get worse—strangled by plastic bottles, bags and other trash. As fishermen, we're in a unique position to do something about it. The oceans are our backyard, our playground, and you can bet we'll be there to keep an eye them.
Casa Vieja Lodge, located in Puerto San Jose, Guatemala, is one of Costa's flagship offshore fishing lodges and recently went all-in on their Kick Plastic program by eliminating all single-use plastic water bottles at the lodge. Learn more about our Kick Plastic initiative at http://bit.ly/2SIrrSe.
